LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police officers shot and killed an armed man in a pickup truck outside a shopping center early Saturday in the San Fernando Valley, authorities said.
Officers responded around 1 a.m. to reports of someone with a gun in a parking lot in the Canoga Park neighborhood, police said.
Police spokesperson Jader Chaves said the shooting occurred when the armed man in the pickup did not comply with the officers’ verbal commands. He not specify what those commands were, how many officers opened fire or what exactly led to the shooting.
The man, who was not immediately identified, died at the scene, the Los Angeles Times reported. He was in his 30s, police said. A gun was recovered and booked as evidence, the Times reported.
No officers were hurt and the area was closed during the investigation, Chaves said.
