Armed and masked, officials say, the trio busted into the Denver business to rob it.
But during "an unexpected and ironic twist," police say, as the reported thieves went to work, a suspected carjacker jumped into their getaway vehicle outside and sped off.
The armed robbery took place Saturday morning at a check cashing business in Commerce City, a suburb about 10 miles northeast of downtown Denver, the Commerce City Police Department reported.
According to police, the heist went sideways for three suspects when police say an unidentified thief stole their getaway car in the middle of the heist.

A stolen, stolen getaway vehicle?
According to the release, just after 11 a.m., officers responded to Hi Lo Check Cashing after three armed, masked men robbed the business.
"Officers infiltrated the area and quickly chased down and arrested two of the three suspects," police posted in the release.
Officers said they later learned that as the trio was robbing the business, "a fourth criminal stole their getaway vehicle which may have already been stolen," police posted in the release.

Third robbery suspect and carjacking suspect on the run
As of Monday, the third robbery suspect and carjacking suspect remained at large.
Police said they are investigating whether the carjacked vehicle was also stolen.
"If we get a solid description of it, we will release that here," officials reported.
Anyone with information about either case is asked to call Commerce City police.
