Police in New Mexico are investigating after they said a dead baby was found in a hospital restroom last week.
According to a release from law enforcement, hospital staff found the baby's body at Covenant Health Hobbs Hospital in Hobbs, a city in southeast New Mexico about five miles from the Texas state line.
The Hobbs Police Department reported officers responded to the hospital for a report of a dead baby and learned a 16-year-old girl, accompanied by her mother, was being treated at the hospital, located about 110 miles southeast of Roswell, New Mexico.
Hospital staff later found the unresponsive newborn in the restroom area of the teen's hospital room.
The baby's body was taken to Albuquerque for an autopsy by the Office of the Medical Investigator who will determine the child's cause and manner of death.
