All you have to do is stay. That’s the motto for die-hard Taylor Swift fans like Oriana Vidal who are camped out in front of the Estadio Mâs Monumental for the opening night of the Eras Tour in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“In South America, in most of the countries, we don’t have seats,” Vidal said in a WhatsApp call Wednesday morning. “We just have floor, and we have to camp to get more closer to the stage. That’s why we are camping right now.”
Vidal, 23, and a group of 12 new friends (they met during this tour) have been camped out making friendship bracelets and chatting all things Swift since Monday.
“The first day I camped was so hot,” she said, “I can’t handle it because it was so hot. And then that night, the girls that camped were freezing because the weather is so crazy here right now."
The group of 13 are in the VIP line. Vidal said there are five tents ahead of them: “They have about 13-30 people.”
In Argentina, fans have developed a system with each tent representing a number of fans who are in line. They all take shifts. And on concert day they enter the stadium in the order the tents were set up.
Pitchfork reported that fans in the general admission line have been camped out since June, waiting a whopping five months. Vidal is elated to be in VIP.
“We have the opportunity to get into the stadium one hour early so I don’t have to camp that much,” she said.
She said her group of girls is all wearing Converse Chucks and running shoes.
“We are prioritizing comfort, because we have to stand for many hours,” she said. “I’m going as a '1989' cheerleader. My favorite era is that one.”
Vidal is going the first two nights of the 3.5 hour show. For floor, she paid 85,000 Argentine pesos (about $250). For night two, she is in one of the assigned seats circling the stadium. Those cost 45,000 Argentine pesos (about $130).
Since Taylor has had a 10-week break since she wrapped up the U.S. leg of the Eras Tour, Vidal said many fans are hoping for a surprise announcement that could come in the form of a music video, guest appearance or even album.
Swift is known for making surprise announcements along tour stops:
- March 17: Before the tour kicked off in Glendale, Arizona, Swift released four additional songs: “Eyes Open (Taylor’s Version),” “Safe & Sound (featuring Joy Williams and John Paul White) (Taylor’s Version),” “If This Was a Movie (Taylor’s Version)” and “All Of The Girls You Loved Before.”
- May 5: In Nashville, Tennessee, Swift announced the rerecording of "Speak Now" would be released July 7.
- May 26: In East Rutherford, New Jersey, she debuted the music video for the “Karma” remix featuring Ice Spice.
- July 7: In Kansas City, Missouri, the singer suprised fans with the premiere of the “I Can See You” music video featuring Taylor Lautner, Joey King and Presley Cash.
- August 9: In Los Angeles, she informed Swifties the rerecording of "1989" would be released Oct. 27.
Swift will perform in Argentina for three nights from Nov. 9-11 with pop star Sabrina Carpenter as the opening act. Swift will then head to Brazil the following two weeks stopping in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
